Ranges instead of clicking
Clicking through thumbnails works for a short file. For a 300-page report, typing 1-3,5,8- is faster and leaves no room for a missed click. This page explains the full range syntax the tool understands, so you can describe any selection in one line.
How to split by a range
- Choose your PDF.
- Type a range expression using the syntax below.
- Press Run to download a PDF with exactly those pages, in that order.
Range syntax reference
| You type | You get |
|---|---|
5 | Page 5 only |
1-3 | Pages 1, 2 and 3 |
8- | Page 8 to the last page |
-4 | Pages 1 to 4 |
1-3,5,8- | Any parts combined with commas |
odd | Pages 1, 3, 5 and so on |
even | Pages 2, 4, 6 and so on |
10,1-9 | Page 10 first, then pages 1 to 9 |
How ranges are read
Parts are separated by commas and read left to right, and the new PDF follows that order. Spaces are ignored, so 1 - 3, 5 works too. A range that runs past the end stops at the last page, and page numbers that do not exist are skipped.
If two parts overlap, the shared pages appear twice: 1-3,2 gives pages 1, 2, 3 and 2 again. That is handy for repeating a cover page, but check your selection if you did not mean it.
One range or many files?
Each run outputs one PDF with every page you listed. If you need each range as its own file, for example chapters 1-12, 13-30 and 31-, run the tool once per range. To cut a document into equal parts, such as every 10 pages, Split into Pages (ZIP) does it in one step and downloads a ZIP.
Frequently asked questions
What does a trailing dash like 8- mean?
It means from page 8 to the last page, however long the document is.
Can I select only odd or even pages?
Yes. Type odd or even. This helps with double-sided scans, where front and back pages need handling separately.
Can I remove pages with a range instead?
Yes. Delete Pages takes the same range syntax but removes the pages you list.
Is there a limit on how many ranges I can type?
No. Use as many comma-separated parts as you need.
Is this tool really free?
Yes. It is free with no signup, no watermark and no daily limits.
